Maimuna Tarq, LGMFT

Maimuna (she/her) is a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT) who works with individuals, couples, and families—supporting clients across the lifespan, including children ages six and up. She has experience helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Maimuna believes that healthy relationships and mental health are essential for a fulfilling life. She works collaboratively with clients to build resilience, explore their identities, and implement tools that fit their lives and values. Her approach is grounded in narrative and solution-focused therapy, and she strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental space that empowers clients to create meaningful change. She offers a welcoming space for people of all identities and backgrounds.

Maimuna holds training in the Gottman Method for couples (Levels 1 and 2), which she integrates into her work with couples and families to strengthen communication and connection. She also has experience working as a school-based therapist and is trained in Theraplay (Level 1), which supports emotional connection and regulation in children and their caregivers through playful, relationship-based interactions.

As a Bangladeshi-American woman fluent in Bangla, Maimuna was inspired to enter the mental health field after seeing the need for culturally responsive care in her community. She hopes that her work in the mental health field will help make support more accessible and relatable for the Muslim and larger South Asian community.

Born and raised in Maryland, Maimuna received her B.S. in Family Science from the University of Maryland before completing her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy at San Diego State University. While she misses the beach, she’s happy to be back in her home state, where she enjoys watching sports, baking, and exploring local coffee shops.
